In the Kailash Mansarovar tour how much walking is involved? Is it all an overland tour by bus?
Yes, the overland Kailash Mansarovar tour from Kathmandu is mostly driven by bus or Jeep. We can reach up to  Lake Mansarovar,  Town of Darchen ( base camp of Kailash), and even drive to Yama Dwar / Tharboche, the starting point of a 3-day trek to do Parikrama by comfortable vehicle ( jeep, Bus, Van). We only walk 3 days  Parikrama or Khora of Kailash on foot, which is a total of 38 km. First day Parikrama walk is about 12 Km – 8 miles, 2nd day is about 20 Km, and 3rd day is about 8 KM. For the Kailash Prikrama, you also have the option of hiring a private horse to ride or hiring a private porter to assist you at extra cost.
So people who are healthy, strong desire to visit Kailash Mansarovar can make the Kailash tour easily.  We always have extra days at Diraphuk – the north face of Kailash  ( subject to TTB permission) to see a close-up view of Kailash and an acclimatization hike. Even after day 2 of the parikrama walk after Dolma la we may have the option of driving via Zothulphuk now.
