Yatra Overview

The Char Dham Yatra is one of Uttarakhand, India’s most well-known religious yatra. Uttarakhand, the Land of Gods or Devbhoomi, is home to many temples. This Yatra takes you to four sacred locations high up in the Himalayas: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Every Hindu’s greatest desire is to do the yatra of the holy sites at least once in their lifetime to find salvation (Moksha).

Every year, the high-altitude temple closes for around six months. They open in the summer (April or May) and close when winter arrives (October or November). It is believed that the Char Dham Yatra should be done clockwise. Thus, the yatra begins in Yamunotri and continues to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. You might finish the yatra by air (helicopter services are available) or by road.

The Yamunotri temple, located in the Uttarkashi area near the source of the Yamuna River, is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the second-most holy river in India after the Ganga. Gangotri, the shrine to the goddess Ganga, the most revered river in India, is located in the Uttarkashi district. The shrine of Lord Shiva, Kedarnath, is situated in the Rudraprayag district. Named for Lord Vishnu, Badrinath is the location of the revered Badrinarayan Temple.

The journey to the Char Dhams is an experience that will last a lifetime. It is nature in all its grandeur, vast and overpowering yet modest in its exquisite beauty. To organize your Char Dham yatra, review our Chardham Yatra packages and itinerary, and contact our professionals.

Yatra Highlights

Yatra Notes

There is no age limit for the Char Dham yatra, and as the most popular yatra, the number of yatris crossed the limit. So, to control this, it is recommended that people in the 7-65 age group participate in this holy yatra. But, despite your age, you should have a medical certificate showing your health status.

Oxygen cylinders and first aid boxes are provided at every Char Dham Camp, but having your first aid equipment on hand in emergencies is a good idea. During this yatra, you will walk around 30km, so you should better have a good shoe.
