Yatra Overview

Among the most sacred sites in Sanatan Dharma is the Holy Amarnath Cave in Kashmir. At an elevation of more than 3,658 meters (12,000 feet), the cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is believed that the Amarnath Cave temple dates back over 5,000 years.

There is the Amarnath Ice Lingam of Lord Shiva within the main Amarnath Cave. The month of May through August is when this naturally occurring ice lingam gets bigger. It is the period of the yearly pilgrimage and celebration of the Amarnath Lingam, which attracts religious people from all over the world. The Amarnath Lingam grows and shrinks in tandem with the moon’s phases, reaching its maximum size during the celebration in summer.

This is the cave where, in Hindu legend, Lord Shiva revealed to his celestial consort, Mother Parvati, the meaning of life and eternity. Lord Ganesha and Mother Parvati are represented by two other ice structures found within the cave. Because of its religious significance and popularity, each year approximately 400,000 Hindus travel here during the 45-day season that falls during the Hindu month of Shravan. They usually begin the walk from the town named Pahalgam and walk for 4-5 days to reach the holy cave.

The sacred cave temple of Mata Vaishnodevi is situated in the Trikuta hills, 13 km from Katra, at a height of 1560 m above sea level. In Hindu mythology, Durga is a Goddess who takes the form of Vaishno Devi, also called Mata Rani. Each year, hundreds of pilgrims flock to this holy temple seeking blessings and showing their unwavering faith in Mata Rani.

Northern India is home to these Holy Temples, yet getting there is a challenge. Every step is worthwhile because of the Darshan in these temples and the scenery. Darshan at these two magnificent temples will make you feel heavenly and blessed, and the splendor of Kashmir and Amritsar will astound you.
